It’s fascinating how everything in life is connected. Bees play a major role; For us, it was exciting to create a shoe that highlights them.
We focused on capturing what makes bees beautiful. So much inspired us - the flow of amber honey, the texture of pollen, the natural hex pattern from hives and of course, the bees themselves.
Details are everything. For the sole, we chose translucent gum and hand drew a honeycomb pattern that we printed on the foam. On the upper, terry cloth represents fuzzy pollen-collecting hairs on the bee’s legs. The fine suede textures also relate to a bee’s body. A gelled heel cap is a nod to beekeeper gloves. Printed on canvas is a swirling print of amber honey colors. The label features a hand-drawn honey bee and leads to a message on the sock liner.
Our hope is for people to wear this shoe and appreciate the beauty and importance of this hard working insect. Reebok as donted $5,000 to the bee-celebrating and bee-saving non-profit, Honey Love in Los Angeles.
